A CONTESTANT on the new Who Wants To Be A Millionaire won the £1million top prize — but can’t keep it.
Stand-in Alan Russell was paid £80 for a trial run with host Jeremy Clarkson.
The bingo caller stunned the ITV crew with 15 correct answers.
A source said: “Alan is a quiz buff and punters at the bingo hall are always saying he should apply.
“His partner works on Millionaire so when she told him that they needed stand-ins to help Jeremy rehearse he jumped at the chance.
"It’s a real shame he went home with £80 and not the full prize.”
The Manchester-based show returns this Saturday to mark its 20th anniversary.
Alan, of Hartlepool, said: “I loved sitting in the iconic chair. And to answer all questions correctly. Wow.
“Maybe I should apply to play properly and see how far I get.”
He also talked cars with Grand Tour star Jeremy but admitted: “I know nothing about them.
“I said I own a purple one and he replied his was grey. It wouldn’t have been the best episode of Top Gear!”
