EastEnders viewers fear Vincent Hubbard is heading for a trap as he plots to bring down Phil Mitchell with dodgy new Detective Inspector

The character is set to bow out of the show very soon, but viewers are worried it won't be in the back of a taxi

EASTENDERS viewers fear Vincent Hubbard is heading into a trap as he plots to bring down Phil Mitchell with a dodgy new Detective Inspector.

The character - played by Richard Blackwood - has become a police informant in recent weeks and supplying them with information about the New Year robbery he was involved in.

But after dealing with DI Franklin, viewers were introduced to a new Detective Inspector this evening, and they instantly smelled a rat.

The new officer told Vincent he would need to leave Albert Square asap if he wanted to keep his family safe from Phil and Irish villain Aidan McGuire.

However the switch in police staff came after Phil made a mystery phone call in Tuesday's episode, while watching DI Franklin leave after his chat with Vincent.

He said: "It's me, listen, don't hang up alright.

"I know I'm the last person you want to hear from but we've got a problem."

Viewers now think the solution to this 'problem' is the new DI, who could be working for the gangster and hoodwinking Vincent into believing he is a real cop.

Taking to Twitter, one wrote: "I suspect that last minute replacement 'DI' came from the same place as 'Savana' the estate agent. Vincent is about to become a resident of the same landfill housing Fatboy and Patrick's son."

Another tweeted: "Oh please. It is obvious this 'policeman' is something to do with Aidan. Vincent will get in a car and some hoodlum will turn around."

A third agreed, writing: "This new copper isn't a copper, he's working for Aidan and they've got rid of the original one. That's my theory", while another posted: "Dodgy cop?!!! Fake Cop?!!! #EastEnders".

Richard, 45, confirmed he would be leaving EastEnders last month after three years in the role, but viewers fear he will be leaving in a coffin or a body bag, not a black cab.

One wrote on Twitter: "I hope Vincent doesn't get killed off :( I don't trust this cop at all" while another added: "Vincent u numpty ur walking into Aidens lair."

A third tweeted: "Vincent's lined up for a swim with concrete boots" and a fourth wrote: "That new DI working for Phil and they're going to kidnap Vincent?"
