Charlize Theron ‘felt depressed’ after gaining three stone for new film Tully by eating burgers for breakfast
The Hollywood star has confessed binging on fatty food made her miserable
CHARLIZE Theron has revealed binging on fatty food made her feel "depressed" as she gained three stone for her new film Tully.
The Hollywood star, 42, piled on the pounds by eating burgers for breakfast and scoffing mac and cheese at 2am.
Charlize plays a struggling mum-of-two who is pregnant with her third, and she looks dramatically different from her usual glam persona.
She changed her body shape for the role by gorging on fast food and fizzy drinks.
However, Charlize says the fatty diet was a struggle as it made her feel awful.
She told Entertainment Tonight: "You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression.
"Yeah, for the first time in my life I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar.
"I was not that fun to be around on this film.
"The first three weeks are always fun because you're just like a kid in a candy store.
"So it was fun to go and have breakfast at In-N-Out [burger chain] and have two milkshakes.
"And then after three weeks, it's not fun anymore."
"Like, all of a sudden you’re just done eating that amount and then it becomes a job."
She went on to add that she had to start eating an extra meal in the early hours of the morning to keep her weight up.

Charlize added: "I remember having to set my alarm in the middle of the night [to have another meal] in order to just maintain [the weight].
"I would wake up and I would just eat it … I would just, like, shove it in my throat."
It took her a year-and-a-half to lose the three stone she put on, and the actress says it was "hell" slimming down again.
