Meghan Markle ended marriage to Trevor Engleson ‘out of the blue’ by moving out – then POSTING rings back
In Meghan, A Hollywood Princess, royal biographer Andrew Morton suggests Meghan was a determined social climber who was not afraid to end relationships if she felt they were holding her back
MEGHAN Markle coolly posted back her wedding and engagement rings to her ex-hubby after ending their marriage “out of the blue”, a new book reveals.
And when she decided to call time on their relationship, she took her favourite kitchen blender with her as a symbol her home was now elsewhere.
The insight into the life of Meghan, 36, is provided by biographer Andrew Morton, whose book on Princess Diana exploded the myths surrounding the marriage of Prince Harry’s parents.
In his latest volume — Meghan, A Hollywood Princess — it is suggested the future royal was a determined social climber who was not afraid to end relationships if she felt they were holding her back.
And that included her union with first husband Trevor Engleson.
The pair wed in Jamaica in September 2011.

But by February 2013 they were living apart after her acting career took off.
And Morton writes that it came as a shock to the film producer, 41.
“He went from cherishing Meghan to, as one friend observed, ‘Feeling like he was a piece of something stuck to the bottom of her shoe’.”
Meghan had moved from Los Angeles to Toronto, Canada, to film hit TV series Suits.
But when Trevor moved his office to New York to be near her, she called time on their marriage.
Morton writes: “Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan, who once said she couldn’t imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself.

“As Toronto was becoming more her home than LA, the dynamics in their relationship subtly altered.
“She was her own woman now, earning a steady income, making new friends on set and off, no longer dependent on her husband’s connections.
A £360 Vitamix blender symbolised the divide.
She insisted her favourite kitchen appliance from their West Hollywood home come with her to Toronto.
“She packed it into the back seat of her car even though it would have been just as easy to buy a new one.
“It sat on the kitchen counter in the Toronto house, a material reminder that her home was no longer in Los Angeles.”
If that was not enough of a hint, Morton writes: “A wealthy entrepreneur friend claimed the marriage ended so abruptly that Meghan sent Trevor her diamond wedding and engagement rings back by registered mail.
“Another confirmed that the decision to end the marriage was made by Meghan and had come ‘totally out of the blue’.”
Ninaki Priddy, maid-of-honour at Meghan’s wedding, said: “I knew they fought sometimes, but it wasn’t anything huge.
“The only obstacle was the distance — she was living in Toronto and Trevor was based in LA.
“I thought they were manoeuvring through it.
"Trevor would take his work to Canada to be with her and run his office remotely.”
Morton goes on: “It was such a surprise for Trevor that even at a distance of five years, he can barely contain his anger.
“The normally affable laid-back New Yorker switches gear from his usual, ‘Hi bro, how’s it going?’ to a cold fury when her name comes into the conversation.
“‘I have zero to say about her,’ he said to enquirers.
Explaining Trevor’s quote about feeling that he was stuck to the bottom of Meghan’s shoe, Morton says that what first attracted her to him soon annoyed her.
He writes: “What once endeared now irritated.
“Meghan, a self-confessed perfectionist as fastidious as she was controlling, had tolerated Trevor’s scattered approach to life for years.
“He was notorious for arriving late, his clothes rumpled, his hair dishevelled, and often as not with a new stain on his jacket.
“‘Sorry bro,’ was a constant refrain as he hurtled from meeting to meeting, always just behind the clock.
Meghan’s home in Summerhill was a vision of order and crisply ironed perfection.
“When she flew back to their LA home after Trevor had been in solo residence for a few weeks, the sight that greeted her rankled.
“Though Trevor would consistently visit, he often felt like an outsider, his presence an irritating distraction.
“While Meghan saw her star rising, her husband’s career was treading water.”
Meghan had strived for years for her big break.
Now she had got it, her husband wasn’t the only change she made to her life.
So strong, such style
by Ingrid Seward
MEGHAN has a past — just like Harry does.
But what she’s been through has made her the woman she is today.
She is a very strong woman and that is what Harry loves about her — he can look up to her but respects her. They have a great togetherness.
I admire her hugely for posting back the rings. It’s cool. That shows real style.
Clearly, that marriage wasn’t right. She knew she was ready to move on, so she did. Brilliant!
Morton writes: “He was not the only one experiencing the Meghan chill.
"Her friends in Los Angeles noticed the change in her now she was on the way up.
“She no longer had the time for friends she had known for years, cancelling lunches at short notice or expecting them to rework their own schedules to accommodate the busy life of the rising star.
“A networker to her fingertips, she seemed to be carefully recalibrating her life, forging new friendships with those who could burnish and develop her career.
“New people like talented fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney, who worked with Sophie Trudeau — the wife of Canadian PM Justin — and her TV personality husband Ben, son of ex-Canadian PM Brian Mulroney, came into her orbit.
“Meghan saw them regularly at Toronto’s newly opened Soho House.
"As she was expanding her social horizons, her LA circle felt they were being left behind.
“While she might have been getting above herself, everyone expected Trevor to keep her feet planted on the ground.
"Without anyone really noticing it, the couple were going their separate ways.
“In February 2013 Trevor went to the Oscars without Meghan, who had dreamed of attending the event since she was a little girl.
“Trevor’s older brother Drew wrote on his Facebook page, ‘My brother at the Oscars tonight proving that they’ll let in just about any hobo off the street’.
“It seems that Meghan was too busy filming to join him.
“A few weeks later, on April 8, 2013, Meghan fully embraced her part-time home when she went to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the New York Rangers at ice hockey at the Air Canada Center.
"Not only was she watching the game, she was there supporting her friend Michael Del Zotto, nine years her junior, skating for the Rangers.
“Two weeks later, on April 21, Meghan was at Madison Square Garden to watch Del Zotto and his fellow Rangers defeat the New Jersey Devils.
“She was captured by photographer James Devaney casually dressed in jeans and grey scarf sitting alone.
“In a series of Instagram posts, Meghan documented her hockey adventures, on one occasion posing with Del Zotto and her Suits co-star Rick Hoffman.
“Representatives for both Meghan and Del Zotto emphatically denied to the press that they were in a relationship.
“By then, Trevor and Meghan’s marriage was over.
"The sad news, in the summer of 2013, came as a bolt from the blue.
“Everyone in their circle was genuinely shocked, none more so than Trevor’s parents David and Leslie — who, according to a member of the Markle clan, had embraced her like a daughter.
“There were other consequences.
"The break-up also fractured her 30-year-odd friendship with jewellery designer Ninaki.
“After listening to Trevor’s side of the story, she decided she no longer wished to associate herself with Meghan.
"Exactly why is a close-kept secret.
“As she described it, ‘All I can say now is that I think Meghan was calculated, very calculated, in the way she handled people and relationships.
"She is very strategic in the way she cultivates circles of friends.
“Once she decides you’re not part of her life, she can be very cold.
"It’s this shutdown mechanism she has.
“There’s nothing to negotiate.
"She’s made her decision and that’s it.
The way she handled it, Trevor definitely had the rug pulled out from under him.
"He was hurt’.”
However, Meghan’s fellow actor friend Abby Wathen, who had starred with her in the low-budget movie Random Encounters in her pre-Suits days, had a different perspective on Meghan’s break-up.

“I was destroyed but she was empowered.
“She took her power back. It wasn’t the right relationship for her, so she moved on’.”
