One in ten puppy owners dump their pet after just a month, research claims
Many said looking after a dog was as hard as taking care of a baby
ONE in ten puppy owners have dumped their pet a month after buying it, a study found.
A worrying 54 per cent knew getting a dog was a mistake when they brought the puppy home.
A quarter struggled to train their new pet. The same amount were unprepared for the expense.
They hoped a dog would complete their family or boost their health, said the poll of 1,000 Brits for dog food firm Forthglade.
But many said looking after a dog was as hard as taking care of a baby.
Most unwanted pets were left with a charity or the owner’s parents.
