Swim ROMPERS hit stores this summer… but would you wear one?
Shoppers can't decide if they love or hate latest summer trend... so what do YOU think?
FROM the bedroom to the beach, would you sport a romper for a day by the sea?
Preferably not, but the popular summer style is now being marketed as the latest swimwear trend for summer.
Swimwear rompers, which consist of a one-piece suit with shorts on the bottom and a cinched-in middle, have understandably left shoppers divided.
Some are thrilled with the conservative new look for for beachwear, while others remain utterly unconvinced.
“Swim rompers don’t need to be a thing,” exclaimed one woman on Twitter.
Another Twitter user pointed out how unattractive and unappealing the romper was.
“Swim rompers are a thing for those of us who like the idea of replacing our torsos with a shapeless mount of wet fabric.”
Another highlighted the impracticality of the romper: “cute, till you gotta pee.”
The unconventional style is being sold in a number of stores.
US Stockists of the humble romper include Target, Lolli Swim, Kohl's and even Miraclesuit.
Yet despite the backlash from some shoppers, others are delighted that brands are finally stocking swimwear that is a little more forgiving.
"Swim rompers actually exist and they are super stylish," one user exclaimed.
Another Twitter user said she was "crushing hard @marahoffman swim! Everything from the bathing suits to the cover-ups and rompers."
Other users are excited about the romper trend but highlight that it's impossible to embrace if you're short.
"I envy girls that can wear rompers. I'm 5ft2 foot tall & swim in the fabric," one Twitter user said.
Another agreed and called out the need for help: "Shopping for rompers...is so frustrating...too tall for a small but a medium hangs off," she wrote.
Target unveiled two swimwear rompers as part of their 2018 swim collection.
One of the designs features a halter neckline and decorative tie front. It's described on the site as "the chic, trendy one piece you've been looking for, designed with the perfect level of comfort and coverage."
Most of the customers have loved their romper purchase.
"This is the BEST swimsuit for mommas," said one shopper, "it's super comfortable for chasing around toddlers without it all hanging out."
Another was equally impressed. "This swimsuit is super cute and so flattering!" she exclaimed. "I was down on myself for needing to lose 20lbs before summer. I put this on and thought...I'm ok!"
Evidently, the swimwear romper isn't for everyone, but it's not a new fashion phenomenon.
Just look to the 1920s when rompers by the beach were all the rage. Traditionally, it was considered a transitional swimsuit that allowed women to show off more skin while equally not revealing too much.
Since its humble beginning in the 20s, the swimwear romper has been modernised and reworked.
It's not for everyone, but it is a good beachwear alternative.
