This is why the royals almost always carry a clutch bag… and how Meghan Markle is breaking the royal tradition
Prince Harry's bride-to-be wore a gorgeous blue-and-white striped crossbody bag in London today
MEGHAN Markle wore every girl's dream summer outfit to the Commonwealth Youth Forum in London today, but her handbag could be breaking royal tradition.
The princess-in-waiting turned heads in a gorgeous cream striped midi dress and Avalon Zip Top Crossbody Bag, in blue-and-white, which costs £171 from Oroton.
And it's not the first time she's done it.
Meghan also donned a green, crossbody Strathberry handbag when she visited Scotland back in February - which sold out within minutes as royal fans rushed to get their mitts on one.
The bag was handy because it meant Meghan was free to shake hands with the crowds, and accept gifts from cute kids - while it matched her tartan jacket perfectly.
But it's this move which stands the Suits actress apart from other royals.
You may have noticed that Kate Middleton tends to opt for a clutch bag, while the Queen favours a small black Laurner handbag - both of which can be clutched in two hands.
According to royal insiders, the reason Kate does this is to avoid awkward encounters with people who may try to shake her hand.
Beaumont Etiquette expert Myka Meier told Good Housekeeping: "When the Duchess is at an event, she holds her bag in front of her in both hands when shaking hands might be awkward.
"Or she can place it in one hand to have the other free. It never gets tucked under an arm or placed on the ground or table."
But etiquette expert William Hanson warned that Kate's technique could appear standoffish.

He told the Mail Online: "Male royalty, such as The Duke of Edinburgh, often walk down line-ups with their hands clasped behind their backs, which although technically not correct, they can get away with due to their elevated position.
"Another good way to avoid unwanted hands."
We recently revealed that Prince George and Princess Charlotte are banned from playing with this popular toy.
And from selfies, to voting and going out alone - these are the things Meghan Markle will be banned from doing when she marries Prince Harry.
