DEAR DEIDRE: I’VE been dating a man for six months.
It’s all going great and the sex is a dream but when I called him “my boyfriend” he corrected me, saying, “You mean ‘friend’.”
We met on a dating site. He is caring and good-natured. We meet at least three times a week. I stop over at his place and he stays at mine.
I’ve met his parents and he’s met mine. He could be the true love of my life but he won’t commit to a relationship.
He’s never been in a serious relationship before and I wonder if he is waiting for someone better to come along. He’s 24 and I’m 23.
It’s still early days so for a few more months, at least, let it run. As long as you’re having a wonderful time.

DEIDRE SAYS: Make a joke of it. Tell him you’re happy with being his “friend” so long as your friendship is one of a kind.
Keep up a full social life so he knows that you’re still out there and free. That may be an incentive to commit.
