Moving out to the country is my biggest regret

DEAR DEIDRE: MY husband always wanted to move to the country and now we have – but I hate it and miss my children.

I long to move back to the city.

We are in our fifties and bought a crumbling old house that needs loads of renovation.

My husband has lost interest and wants to sell it to buy another close by.

I had a cancer scare a few months ago. The surgery and treatment knocked me for six.

I realised what matters most is family.

If I mention moving back my husband says it is because of all I have been through and insists I will feel differently soon.

I am getting very depressed and miss my kids more every day.

DEIDRE SAYS: Your husband is living his dream so he doesn’t want to hear that you feel differently.

But make your feelings crystal-clear. You had a life-changing experience that has reinforced your priorities.

Have a family talk with your kids. See if compromises might be possible.

Could you go for regular stays with your kids while he works on the house?
